How to Use a Power Washer Correctly
Choosing nozzles or tips. When it comes to using a power washer efficiently you will need to use the right nozzle or tip. The majority of machines have interchangeable spray tips which are there to serve 2 purposes. One is to reduce the pressure and draw the detergent and the other is for high-pressure rinses. Our residential & commercial power washing company machines come with numerous tips or nozzles, to suit every surface we clean.
As a rule of thumb, the smallest angle will provide a powerful spray. For instance, when you want to remove stubborn stains from your driveway you will need to use a 0-degree angle. But, for the likes of leaves, sand and so on, you should use a wider angle like a 25 or 45-degree nozzle. However, always make sure that the nozzle or tip is properly attached before pulling the trigger. Failure to do this could mean the tip acts like a bullet and could injure you or damage your property.
Only use chemicals and solutions which have been approved by the machine’s manufacturer. Most washers will come with the detergent injector, this allows for a continuous and uninterrupted flow of cleaning solution into the stream of water. Should you use unapproved detergents they are often not environmentally friendly and could be dangerous for machines components. One solution that works well on concrete may not bode as well for wood.
Always test your machine for its power. The best is to begin by spraying few feet away from the object you want to clean. Slowly bring your wand to the surface you want to clean and move from side-to-side a few times. Should any additional cleaning be needed, move your wand slowly closer to the surface. The reason behind this gradual cleaning is the fact that these machines can be quite powerful and if you use it too close to an object it could end up damaging it instead of cleaning it.
